A young man of about twenty-two years old is already on dialysis. He is suffering from diabetes and has two damaged kidneys. Three times a week he has to have his blood washed. These days he still does the same thing he was doing when he was healthy. And that is lay around in a comfy sofa playing games on a television screen or on his computer.
Lack of adequate exercise! This I believe is the most grievous health problem facing us in the United States of America today. Poor eating habits also compound this problem like ten fold. Whilst it is good that apparatus are being developed to simplify life or minimize the use of time, what this actually does is take away the manual labor which is healthy for us.
Most sickness today stems from the lack of inadequate exercise. Therefore there should be the development of products that can force us to burn the calories we keep packing layers by layers into our system. If we are cooped up for about nine months in a year, then the products should be developed to be used in door. Construction of housing, including apartments should cater for this.
Currently we have a treadmill, but since we live in such a poorly constructed apartment building we cannot use it, as we do not want to disturb the tenants below us. So we are trapped into eating and stay cooped up just watching TV or surfing the internet. Thus the weight around the waistline keeps bulging more and more.
So unless outdoor facilities for the public are incorporated into the city council budget we will continue to have more and more sick folks to care for from a very tender age. Patients should have compulsory exercise schedules. Healthy folks should enjoy doing manual things. For instance purchase a couple a solid pieces of log and use an axe to chop it up. Think of other manual projects. Paint a neighbor house.
If we burn the excess calories we will stay healthy for a very very long time.
